1) TERRITORY

Barcelona is the most popular city of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, with a population of 1,615,908 in 2009.

It is located on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths to the rivers Llobregat and the Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge.


The city borders are the municipalities of Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Sant Adrià de Besòs to the north. L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Esplugues de Llobregat to the south; the Mediterrean Sea to the east; and
Montacada i Reixac and Sant Cugat del Vallès to the west.

Barcelona is recognised as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, entertainment, arts and international trade. Barcelona is a major economic centre with one of Europe's principal Mediterranean ports, and Barcelona International Airport is the second largest in Spain after the Madrid-Barajas Airport.

















Barcelona is a city that is always growing up, but it has an inconvenient, its his borders; it has in the east the Mediterranean Sea. And on the other side, it has the Serralada Litoral.
















Climate:
Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate,but it has the characteristics of an urban microclimate and particuliarities for being in the north of Mediterranean sea.
The winter are short, cold and humid and the summer are dry, long and hot.
Barcelona is located on the eastern coast of the IberianPeninsula, so Atlantic west winds often arrive in Barcelona with low humidity, producing no rain.

2) FOOD

The region of Catalonia has a strong culinary reputation, he aded by native shef Ferrán Adrià. Adrià is the most famous and imitated chef in the world.
Barcelona food would be ompossible without a handful of essential ingredients: olive, oil garlic and tomato are tomatoare the top three a doubt.

Pa amb tomàquet
Take a nice, thick slice of toasted rustic bread, rub some garlic and fresh tomato on top, drizzle a generous amount of olive oil to boot and add a pinch of salt. There you have it, pan amb tomàquet, a Catalan favourite breakfast.



Fideua
Like paella, fideua is cooked in a large, flat, circular pan with a combination of shellfish, poultry, meat and vegetables.
Instead of rice, however, the base is fideus - short, skinny noodles.

Crema catalana
The most ubiquitous Catalan desert, crema catalana is a delicious cold custard with a crispy, caramelized sugar coating.


Calçotada
Calçots are a local kind of baby onions charred over an open flame but tender on the inside. They're then braised with romesco, a special Catalan sauce of tomatoes, red peppers, garlic, almonds and olive oil.

3) SPORTS

Barcelona is a great city for professional sports. The great climate makes it ideal for outdoor activities. The city has enjoyed the top quality sporting infrastructure built for the most important events. Some of these sporting complexes include athletic and football stadiums, a velodrome, swimming pools, ice rinks and sporting marinas.

FC Barcelona

Barcelona Football Club operates a number of sports teams in Barcelona, Catalonia. Its slogan is Barça is more than a club. The club's stadium is Camp Nou. It can host the biggest number of spectators out of all stadiums in Europe with 98 800 seats in total. Its official name is Nou Estadi del Futbol Club Barcelona. Barcelona are the legendary champions of Europe and Spain alike.

Barcelona has always been a city that lives and breathes sport. Today, and thanks in large part to the holding of the Olympic Games, a quarter of the city's population now regularly do some type of sport and have included physical exercise in their habitual activities. The people of Barcelona have seized the city's public spaces, squares, parks and new beaches and turned them into focal points of sports activities. And we must continue to advance in this direction. - Sailing and Water sports: Sailing and water sports can be enjoyed to the full in Barcelona due to its close proximity to the sea. Several regattas are held every year during the spring and summer.


- Skiing: There are several ski resorts in the Pyrenees (Girona, Lleida), within easy access from Barcelona through the Cadí Tunnel.
